Acqui Terme

A border land, between Piedmont and Liguria, between the plains and the Apennines, rich in environmental, landscape, artistic, eno-gastro-nomic suggestions, where the territory presents a variety of landscapes depending on the altitude that varies from a minimum of 120 m. up to 850 meters above sea level.

A corner of land, situated in a very strategic location not far from the big cities of Genoa, Milan, Turin and the Ligurian Riviera, where tranquility, traditions, ancient customs, ot-times wines, genuine gastronomy and respect for nature still reign supreme.

The city of Acqui is surrounded by a crown of hills that lie on the valleys of the Erro stream and the Bormida river, where the landscape is varied with meadows, woods, rivers and tor-rents, characterized mainly by Brachetto and Moscato vineyards. Located on the left bank of the Bor-mida River, at 164 meters above sea level, it has a population of about 20,600. A charming spa town already renowned in Roman times for its steaming waters, the hot ones, rich in therapeutic pro-prieties that flow from the heart of the historic center and across the Bormida River, in the green “Bagni” area. Today, the town rappre-
sentes the main spa resort in the Pie-monte and among the most important on the national scene, both in terms of the quality and quantity of treatments offered.
Food and wine is the other major reality that plays a relevant role here in terms of economy and tourism.

The Acqui area has as many as 9 DOC and 3 DOCG wines. There are numerous opportunities to stay for tourists who wish to visit museums, monu-ments, works of art, for which the doors of Acqui’s Palazzo Saracco open every year, hosting anthological exhibitions of the great names in contemporary Italian art.

Roman city, medieval city, modern city; the oldest part of the city is the borgo Pisterna with charming, narrow cobbled streets similar to the Genoese “carugi,” Baroque and Renaissance portals, adjacent to the Borgo Nuovo and Borgo San Pietro: together they represent the current center of the city, which has gradually developed towards the plain and the hillside.
